Tanabe Castle is renowned as the stage of the battle of Tanabe Castle (a siege), which was attacked by a large army by Mitsunari Ishida and became the preparatory battle for the ‘Battle of Sekigahara’. It is now a park, but visitors can learn about the history of Tanabe Castle at the museum located inside the castle gate that was recreated in 1992.
